Swahili Fashion Week is a fast growing platform for fashion and accessory designers from Swahili speaking countries and the African continent to showcase their talent, market their creativity and network with clientele and the international fashion industry. This is all aimed at emphasizing to the region that fashion is an income generating creative industry, meanwhile promoting a "Made in Africa" concept.
Swahili Fashion Week is a platform founded and created by celebrated Tanzanian couturier, Mustafa Hassanali in year 2008. Now in its Fourth year, it has become the biggest annual fashion event in the whole of East and Central Africa.

the 10th, 11th and 12th in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, and will close the fashion
week this year in Zanzibar on 13th Nov 2011.
Swahili Fashion Week 2011 will collectively bring together 50 fashion and accessories designers from Swahili speaking countries and beyond to showcase their creativity and forecast future fashion trends for the region.

DOREEN ESTAZIA WITH HER LABEL ESKADO BIRD
For Eskado Bird, also known as Doreen Estazia, fashion began at an early age. She evolved from being her mother’s boutique’s shop assistant at the age of three to being her friends’ stylist, personal shopper and designer.
Even after finishing college with a MA Hons in Multimedia and opening her own digital studio, she still pursued fashion on the side. For her second showcase in Dar Fashion Festival launch, she teamed up with poet Kennedy Mathias for a revolutionary and conceptual 8-piece representation of life from a woman’s perspective.
She is inspired by surrealist art and she designs for a unique clientele of sexy, sleek women who are not afraid to be the center of attention.
She introduced the collection WHAT'S YOUR FREEDOM which is the concept of been free during the Tanzanian independence festival.

After serving as London’s Matthew Williamson’s intern, Pooja
Jeshang had enough unique expertise to be included in the Top 8
Emerging Designers in Swahili Fashion Week 2010.
In this year’s Swahili Fashion Week, she plans on showcasing her collection Jambo Afrika S/S RTW and launching her fashion line: Saffron.

Zamda was discovered by Redds Africa through its Redds African Fashion Designing Awards in 2006, when she represented Tanzania in the Novice Designer category.
In 2008, she launched the Zaidi Africa label, whose name stems from her desire to always want more and habit of not expecting less from herself.
Zaidi Africa is based in Dar Es Salaam and produces clothes that range from customized pieces to ready to wear with African finishing touches. Its clients are ladies who love to flaunt their beauty.

MANJU MSITA WITH HIS LABEL SMART AFRICA
Manju Msita, a persevering artist who started off in graphic designing before criss-crossing the world as a musician in the mid to late 1980s, fell and stayed in love with fashion designing since his first stint in the year 2000.
He considers himself an employee of his company Smart Afrika where his 16 person team works efficiently to turn sketches through stitches into dresses.
His name has become somewhat synonymous with Afro design, thanks to his sustained efforts that have seen him perfect stunning pieces with African taste for Kitchen party, Send Off and Wedding as a niche beside his distinctive casual attires. His designs have not only graced the catwalks of Tanzania, but also of UK, Australia, Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden and other parts of Africa

been chosen as finalists in the emerging designers category. We are looking to
raise awareness and create a platform for our eponymous label Dina
Martin.

Miss Evelyn Rugemalira was an Operations Manager for a
family-owned business is Dar Es Salaam when she opened a clothing fashion label
called Eve Collections after an inspiring trip to Nigeria.
Eve Collections features pieces of luxurious fabrics of Ankara,
fused with a wide range of high quality of linen, cotton, chiffon, raw silks
together with sequined beads. Eve Collections caters for the needs of

Although Rehema Chachage is a trained and practicing new
media artist; she has had lifelong interest in fashion.
The Emerging Designers Competition offers a platform for her very first
appearance in the fashion industry.
Her dream for the future is to find a balance between her art and her
fashion.
Mtani Nyamakababi is a young designer who was born in
Musoma, Tanzania and is currently still in high school.
His passion for design started when he was still in primary school but he
began serious sketching and design after his Ordinary Level finals. After
entering high school, he immersed himself into the fashion industry by
showcasing his designs in different events such as the Barazani Fashion Show
which was organized by Alliance Francaise in Dar Es Salaam.
He is attending Swahili Fashion Week as part of the Emerging Designers
Competition.
